Why Detox In The Fall
I believe in detoxing seasonally as Mother Nature provides us with the bounty we need to detox. Each season also gives us an opportunity to honor different organs. Fall detoxes are miraculous for many reasons. During the heat of the summer, the body builds up toxins. This can lead to coughs, rashes, migraines, and a weakened immune system.
Therefore, the fall season is a great time to boost the immune system and shed unwanted weight.
Did You Eat Too Much Halloween Candy?
Most of us have a favorite Halloween candy from childhood. For me, it was the tricolor orange, yellow and white-tipped candy corn. Pure high fructose corn syrup for sure, but each piece was so irresistible… and Halloween comes but once a year.
As a little girl, my Mom would frame a house out of cardboard and white icing would hold the chocolate bars that served to decorate as a log cabin. The sloping roof was up for grabs as were the windows and door. While a significant amount of candy was left in my Trick-or-Treat bag, the goal was to use as much of the candy as possible for decoration.
What are your traditions with Halloween candy?
Here’s how to reboot from too much Halloween –
1. Hydrate to nurture your digestive system and say good-bye to bloat!
3. Eat sufficient protein to maintain energy. You can add extra clean sources of protein to any meal.
4. Snack on nuts and seeds; continue to Halloween Theme with 1-2 TBS pumpkin seeds.
5. Plan and prep what you’re going to eat for the next few days to make things easy to grab-and-go
Great Pumpkin Hydrating Halloween Detox Smoothie
3 ounces organic pumpkin puree
6 ounces coconut water
6 ounces water
1 TBS flaxseed
3 Macadamia nuts or 5 Pecans (or a combination of both) - may presoak overnight to soften
Small dash of cinnamon & nutmeg (or pumpkin pie spice mix)
Optional: 1/2 C spinach and / or 1/4 apple
Blend in high-speed blender and enjoy!
